It’s how York welcomes spring. The 26th annual York flower show runs March 3-5, 2017 celebrating garden practices past and present as well herbs for use and delight.

Pennsylvania Garden Show of York (PAGSY), March 3-5, Memorial Hall of the York Expo Center is one of the top five flower and garden shows on the east coast. It is celebrated for its balance of walk-through Landscape Display Gardens, a bustling Garden Market, a Standard or judged Flower Show, make-it-and take-it workshops, free seminars and Wine Tasting in the Gardens. There are 120 different exhibitors this year. PAGSY benefits in part, the Veterans Memorial Gold Star Healing and Peace Garden in York’s Memorial Park.

PAGSY promotes the Landscape and Garden Industry in the York region through displays and educational forums in order to foster appreciation and care of the natural world which sustains us all.

The Hall of Gardens is a beloved feature of PAGSY with some of the premiere landscape companies driving for top honors. Only one will walk away with the coveted Best of Show award. But everyone benefits from seeing the practical landscape ideas and beautiful plantings in the gardens. Visitors get to ask the designers about the features in the Display Gardens and how they might work in their landscape.

. Display Garden Exhibitors:

In the bustling Garden Market, visitors will find just about anything to improve outdoor living including flowering plants, herbs, native and unusual plants, water feature specialists, lawn ornaments, art, herbal soaps, fairy garden accessories, herbal soaps, and so much more. If you enjoy the sculptures of York, this is one of the few time to meet the grand dame of York arts, Lorann Jacobs. See her latest bronze garden and public art entries. Charming and whimsical, it’s always a treat to view what’s new whether for public or private applications.

Federated Garden Club District IV will hold its Standard or Judged Flower show within the Garden Market Hall (www.pagardnclubs.org). FGC includes clubs in York, Lancaster, Lebanon, Cumberland, Dauphin, Fulton, Franklin, Perry, and Adams Counties. It consistently wins national and international awards and is regarded as a top Standard Flower Show in Pennsylvania.

Headliners in the free seminars include, Mark Viette, broadcasting live “In the Garden with Andre’ Viette”, Saturday morning from 8-11 on WSBA. Back by popular demand, Mark speaks on garden design Friday night at 6:00 and again Saturday at 2:00. Be sure to get there early as seats fill up fast and he brings a limited amount of Viette Designer Daylily roots for lucky fans.

Native son, Vince Butera gives two presentations Friday only. York’s international garden speaker will demonstrate the latest trends in floral art. Take advantage of Vince’s expertise while he is available learn ways to live better with botanicals.

Kate Copsey releases her new book, “The Downsized Veggie Garden”, and gives tips on getting the best veggies out of even the smallest areas. Kate will sign books after her Saturday March 5 talk at 1 PM.

Popular garden blogger, George Weigle, takes us on a tour of some extraordinary private gardens, and gives tips on how to garden smart – keep the botanical beauties without breaking the back. George will be signing his new book, Pennsylvania Month by Month Gardening.

Penn State master Gardeners bring a full slate of How-To’s for the gardener including current pest threats, attracting butterflies, the importance of indigenous plants and growing bountiful blooms.

Thyme Out!” is Carolyn Bupp’s title showing how to make a four season container garden with herbs. Carolyn and Steve Bupp are the all-time winners (9 times, but who is counting) of the prestigious People’s Choice Award for landscapes. Can they do it again?

Wine Tasting is offered this year in the Hall of Garden with a variety of local vintners to choose from. Bailee’s Home Brew and Supplies on Market Street in East York will be brewing a special Rose Petal and Hibiscus Beer exclusively for PAGSY. This will be a limited edition and when it’s gone, it’s gone. Call 755-7599 for more information.

Digging 4 Diamonds is the exclusive fundraiser for the Gold Star Garden, the 2016 PAGSY charity of the year. The winner takes home a one carat Teardrop Diamond courtesy of Gem Boutique. Can you dig it? There will be plenty of treasures uncovered for donations to York’s Veterans Gold Star Garden (www.GoldStarGarden.com).

There is music throughout the show and for the children, face painting on Saturday. It is recommended that visitors wear comfortable shoes and prepare to spend several hours to take in the sights and sounds of spring. Be sure to find the historical vehicles scattered within the show. Food concessions are available in Memorial Hall and parking is free.
